HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Public Finance was established in 1983 with the aim of satisfying both the public and private sectors’ demand for human resource educated in fiscal issues. The Department has offered an MA program since 1988 and a PhD program since 1995.
 

BRANCHES OF THE DEPARTMENT and THEIR SHORT DEFINITIONS: There are four main branches at the Department of Public Finance, i.e., Public Finance Theory, Fiscal Economics, Fiscal Law and Budget and Fiscal Planning. Public Finance Theory and Fiscal Economics allow analyzing fiscal issues based on the economic theory while Fiscal Law and Budget and Fiscal Planning are applied branches in which technical and legal dimensions of public sector budgets are analyzed.


VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The vision of the Department involves educating reputable scientists and producing nation- and world-wide scientific knowledge consistent with the universal academic culture, discipline and quality. The major policy of the Department is to acquire a leading role in its field through providing a respectful environment to its students and academic staffs, and through graduating high-skilled and ingenious students with self-confidence.


MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT: The mission of the department is to train scientists/experts and provide high quality labour force to the public sector with nation- and world-wide
competitive talents.  Moreover, the department aims at producing scientific knowledge via researches and publications and informing the society about fiscal issues through its intellectual accumulation.  


MINIMUM SCORES OF THE LAST 3 YEARS OSS: Equally Weighted Minimum OSS Scores of the students accepted to the Department in the last three years are as follows: 329,243 in 2003, 319,355 in 2004 and 336,552  in 2005.


EDUCATIONAL SKILLS GIVEN BY THE DEPARTMENT:
The education given at the Department, aims at developing the ability of analyzing economic and fiscal facts, gaining capability in accounting and legal issues, constructing the legal background necessary for the business life, developing the analytic capability of making analysis and producing solutions about fiscal policy issues.


APPRENTICESHIP POSSIBILITIES FOR THE STUDENTS AND OCCUPATION AREAS FOR THE GRADUATES:
The graduates of the Department are usually employed at the following institutions: Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour, Banking Sector, Supreme Boards, Treasury, Customs, Universities, Turkish Court of Accounts, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Justice, Prime Ministry, Private Sector Firms, Auditing Institutions, Central Bank of Republic of Turkey, Social Security Organizations, State Planning Organization
